Did you know that finely ground Walnut Shells will sharpen your sewing pins?  Yep, it's true.  I've been using them in my pincushions and I'm loving it.

This pretty little pin cushion is easy to make (can be made by hand or machine) and is filled with ground walnut shells which will keep your needles and pins sharp.
